Habit Tracker Apps Without Subscriptions (2026)

May 1, 2026 · 4 min read

The App Store habit tracker category is largely subscription territory now. Download a tracker, use it for a week, and the paywall appears. $3.99/month, $39.99/year. In some cases both tiers, with the annual option positioned as the “value” choice. For an app that stores a list of habits and a grid of completed days, this pricing model is hard to justify.

If you want to pay once and be done with it, your options are narrower than most “best habit tracker” lists will tell you — but they exist.

What’s Changed in 2026

A few apps that offered lifetime or one-time purchase options in previous years have shifted models. Done (now Do Habits) changed ownership and adjusted its pricing structure. The category has consolidated around subscription revenue, which makes the apps that haven’t gone that route easier to identify by contrast.

The short version: there are two genuinely no-subscription habit trackers worth recommending on iPhone right now.

The Two No-Subscription Habit Tracker Apps for iPhone

Just Habits — $4.99 one-time

Just Habits is a one-time purchase with no subscription tier, no annual renewal, and no upsell after you’ve paid. The first 3 habits are free forever, so you can try the core experience without entering payment information.

The tracking model is deliberately different from most apps. Instead of streak counters, Just Habits shows a 16-week momentum grid: a visual record of filled and empty squares, similar in feel to a GitHub contribution graph. Completed days glow amber. Missed days stay empty. You can backdate any day you forgot to log. The result is an honest picture of your recent behavior without manufacturing pressure around individual missed days.

Widgets are a genuine strength: an interactive medium home screen widget lets you complete up to 5 habits without opening the app, plus a lock screen widget for a single habit at a glance.

No account required. Data syncs through your own iCloud. Nothing is sent to a third-party server. CSV export available at any time.

Best for: Users who want to pay once, prefer an honest visual record over streak pressure, and don’t want their behavioral data on someone else’s servers.

Streaks — $5.99 one-time

Streaks is an Apple Design Award winner and one of the most polished habit trackers on the App Store. At $5.99 with no subscription, it’s a fair price for a genuinely well-built app. It works across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch, with excellent widget support.

The entire app is built around the streak mechanic, which is its defining strength and its main constraint. If breaking a streak motivates you to rebuild rather than quit, Streaks is probably the best-designed implementation of that experience available. The 24-habit limit matters only if you track many habits at once; for most users, it isn’t an issue.

If you find streak resets demoralizing, Streaks is not designed to soften that experience. The streak is the point.

Best for: Users motivated by streaks, who want Apple ecosystem coverage across devices, and want to pay once.

The Lifetime Option: Habitify

Habitify is a cross-platform habit tracker with detailed analytics and a polished interface. It charges $39.99/year for its standard subscription, but also offers a $89.99 lifetime option if you want to pay once.

At $89.99, it’s not cheap compared to Just Habits or Streaks. The analytics depth and cross-platform support (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, web) justify it for some users, but for most people who just want to track habits without a subscription, the simpler apps are more than enough.

Apps to Skip If No Subscription Is Your Priority

These are currently subscription-only and have no one-time option:

  • Momentum ($1.99/month): a no-streak tracker similar in philosophy to Just Habits, but without a one-time option. You’ll spend more than Just Habits’ $4.99 within three months and keep paying indefinitely.
  • Finch ($5.99/month): a self-care app built around a virtual pet. No one-time option.
  • Bearable ($34.99/year): health tracking focused, subscription only.
  • Habitica: free for core features, $47.99/year for premium. If you can live with the free tier, it’s usable without subscribing.

The Bottom Line

For most iPhone users: Just Habits at $4.99 once if you want no streaks, no account, and privacy-first syncing. Streaks at $5.99 once if the streak mechanic is what gets you to open the app every day.

Both are significantly cheaper than any subscription app after the first year. Either works on current iOS and receives updates.
